Confident of forming new govt, says Omar

Chief Minister and National Conference (NC) working president Omar Abdullah said today that his opponents were making all “bogus propaganda and stooping low” to criticise his party. He expressed confidence that the NC would form the new government in the state and carry forward its agenda to make Jammu and Kashmir modern, economically well-off and a peaceful state. He said this was because of the undercurrent in favour of the NC and enthusiasm of its workers to register remarkable victory in these elections.

Omar was addressing election rallies at Lohai, Nathi, Duggani in the Bani Assembly constituency of Kathua district and at the Bishnah Assembly constituency of Jammu district in support of party candidates.

He criticised the Congress for “misleading” people against the NC and “unleashing false propaganda” against it.

“Seven months earlier, when the NC was campaigning in favour of Congress candidates for the parliamentary elections, Ghulam Nabi Azad was full of praises and admiration for the NC and its leadership. It is astonishing that Azad is now not only criticising the NC but also making late Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Farooq Abdullah subject matter of election campaign when both are not around,” he said.

The Chief Minister also criticised the BJP for “deceiving people” and asking them to vote for Narendra Modi.

Omar also referred to the “canards” circulated by the Congress against the NC for not implementing the Union Food Security Act in the state and termed it a “false propaganda aimed at fooling the people”.

He said if he had not halted the implementation of the Food Security Act in the state, more than 25 lakh people would have been deprived of getting ration by this Act.

Addressing a gathering in Bishnah, Omar mentioned the “failure” of sitting Bishnah MLA Ashwani Kumar and said had he been able to deliver and serve the people in the last two terms of 12 years as an MLA for the Bishnah Assembly constituency, he would not have “sought shelter” in the BJP.
