Comedian Gurpreet Ghuggi joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday. “Farmer's plight and dismal condition of common man in Punjab forced me to join politics,” Ghuggi said.

On what made him join the party, Ghuggi said, “Pictures and stories of farmers committing suicide saddened me every day. Drugs, killer roads and apathy of the government forced me to join the AAP revolution.”

“I have a better and comparatively secure future in films but I want to pay back to the state that made me what I am today,” Ghuggi said, adding that Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann was his inspiration and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s movement motivated him.

Gurpreet Ghuggi will concentrate on the Majha region of Punjab. “I will also fulfil my profession commitments as an actor as I would not let the actor in me die after joining politics,” he said.

The comedian-turned-politician admitted that he had offers from other parties as well but he believed in the ideology of the AAP.
