Cold blamed for youth’s death in road accident

Two deaths have been reported in road accidents in the past 24 hours in the city. The police suspect on of the vicitms died because he lost control over his scooter due to freezing cold.

A 25-year-old youth was killed in a road accident on Tajpur Road in the afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Kumar, a native of Bihar who lived at Moti Nagar here.

According to the police sources, the deceased was going towards the Central Jail side to meet his cousin on a scooter. Balkar Singh, investigating officer (IO) from the Division No. 6 police station, said when he reached near Dayal Public School, he lost control over his scooter due to the freezing cold and the two-wheeler collided with a truck coming from the opposite side.

Balkar Singh said: “We suspect the cold is the cause of the accident. The victim failed to use the breaks on time and collided with the truck. Abhishek died on the spot”.

The investigating officer said the truck driver fled the spot leaving his vehicle behind. On a complaint of the deceased’s cousin, the Division No. 7 police registered a case.

“We have impounded the truck and registered a case under section 304-A of the IPC against its driver. The body of the deceased has been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Investigation is on,” said Balkar Singh.

Biker hit by speeding truck, dies

In the second accident, a speeding truck hit a motorcyclist at Samrala Chowk late yesterday evening. The motorcyclist suffered critical injuries. He died at a private hospital.

Police reached the spot and his relatives were informed about the accident.

The deceased has been identified as Pawan Kumar, a resident of New Punjab Mata Nagar, Pakhowal Road.

Sham Sunder, brother of the deceased, in a complaint to the police, stated that his brother was going to Jamalpur on his bike. When he reached Samrala Chowk, a speeding truck hit his bike from behind.

The Division No. 3 police have registered a case under sections 279, 304 A and 427 of the IPC against an unidentified driver.
