Chandigarh, December 24

The railway authorities seem least bothered about monitoring the quality of food being served to passengers on board the Shatabdi. Yesterday, a passenger complained that he found cockroaches in the soup served to him on train number 12045 from New Delhi to Chandigarh.

Anil Kumar, who was travelling by the evening Shatabdi, was served soup, which had a cockroach in it. After he complained, his soup was replaced by the staff, but the second time too, there was a cockroach in the soup.

In a written complaint to the food inspector, Anil Kumar stated that the quality of food served on the train was pathetic.

Northern Railway CPRO Neeraj Sharma said on the basis of the complaint, an inquiry would be conducted against the contractor by a senior official. If the contractor was found guilty, he would be fined heavily, he said.

In 2014, after receiving complaints regarding stale food and delay in service on the Shatabdi, it was decided that “a pre-board inspection of the food and pantry will be done by a team of officials”.
