Ludhiana, March 25

The founder’s day celebrations of Christian Medical College were held today. The day was celebrated in the memory of CMC founder Dame Edith Brown. She established the institution to serve the community. Her initiative, taken over 120 years ago, now stands as one of the premier medical institutions in India.

Nearly 30 alumni from the batches of 1965 and 1984 visited their alma mater for their 50 years and 25 years reunion, respectively. Some of them visited decades after having leaving the college. Many other alumni over the years also attended the celebrations.

Dr Subhash Singla, President, Association of Medical Alumni, CMC, welcomed the visiting alumni. Dr Abraham G Thomas, director, CMC and Dr Bobby John, principal, addressed the gathering.

During a continuing medical education programme Dr Subhash Chander Khanna from UK and Dr Sewa Singh Legha from USA (batch of 1965), delivered a talk on “Breast Cancer- Current Treatment Concepts”. Dr Ajay Kumar Dhawan from USA (batch of 1984), delivered a talk on “Lean/TPS in Healthcare.”

Dr. Abraham G. Thomas, Director and Dr. Kim J. Mammen, Associate Director, gave away the mementoes to the Reunion Batches. During this, the Alumni shared their experiences since graduation and also narrated anecdotes about their time spent in CMC many years ago.

The alumni also visited the hostels, college and hospital premises to relive old memories and to see the newer developments that have taken place at CMC, since the days that they were here.

Meanwhile Brown Memorial Hospital Employees Union took out a candle march to make the youth aware about the drug abuse. The candle march started from Chaura Bazar Chowk and ended at Girja Ghar Chowk.
