CM meets Uma, Gadkari; seeks early clearance of projects

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today met Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Uma Bharti here today. He asked Gadkari to declare a 1,786 km stretch of the Guru Gobind Marg a national highway and Uma Bharti to clear irrigation projects soon.

Badal, who had left the National Capital after his engagements yesterday, returned today to meet the ministers.

During his meeting with Gadkari, he demanded that 1,786 km stretch of the Guru Gobind Marg linking Sri Anandpur Sahib-Talwandi Sabo-Nanded be declared a national highway.

The tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh undertook his last journey from Sri Anandpur Sahib to Talwandi Sabo. He also visited Nanded in Maharashtra.

The length of this stretch is 3,080 km. Nearly 605 km of it is located in Punjab, 1,123 km in Rajasthan, 164 km in Haryana, 630 km in Madhya Pradesh, 363 km in Maharashtra, 18 km in Delhi and 177 km in Uttar Pradesh. About 1,786 km of the route is yet to be declared a national highway. Badal also told Gadkari that 1,775 km of the route needed to be four-laned. The state government said Gadkari assured the Chief Minister to convene a meeting of the ministry’s officials and the states on the issue.
