Dehradun, September 20

Chief Minister Harish Rawat today assured agitating primary teachers of every possible step to fulfil their demands. He urged them at the rally ground here to call off their strike considering the future of students.

Rawat expressed concern that teaching had been adversely affected in government schools due to the strike by teachers across the state. He assured them that a blueprint would be drafted to fulfil their demands. The protesters demanded formation of a committee to amend Service Rule-2012, promotion of experienced and most deserving teachers to the posts of principal, filling of vacant posts and removal of pay anomalies.

Earlier, the teachers under the aegis of the Uttarakhand Junior High School Teachers’ Association gathered at the Raipur bus stand. They lamented that they had given memorandums to government officials and public representatives, but to no avail. They said they were given false assurances that their demands would be fulfilled soon. They threatened to intensify their agitation if the state government did not take immediate steps to fulfil their pending demands.

Nirmala, Digvijay Singh Chauhan, Vinod Kumar Uniyal, Preetam Barathwal, Digamber Negi and Pradeep Pandey were present.
