Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Rawat today stated that climate change was leading to natural disasters. He was addressing a day-long workshop — Strengthening State Strategies for Climate Actions — organised jointly by the Uttarakhand Disaster Management Department and the United Nations Development Programme in Dehradun.

The CM directed the chief secretary to set a committee for reviving Rispana river.

S Ramaswamy, Chief Secretary, too asserted that frequency of natural disasters had increased in recent times on account of climate change.

Jairaj, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, stressed on effective implementation of the State Action Plan on climate change.

Earlier, Amit Singh Negi, secretary, Uttarakhand Disaster Management, stressed on importance of sensitising society on climate change and disaster risks.

DP Dobhal, geologist, spoke on the impact of climate change on glaciers.

Similarly, Dr Girish Joshi, disaster management specialist, spoke on disaster risk assessment vis-à-vis Uttarakhand.
