Faridabad, January 17

A three-member team of the Quality Council of India (QCI) started a cleanliness survey today. The drive is part of the ongoing nationwide Cleanliness Survey Drive (Swachh Survekshan Abhiyan) sponsored by the Union Ministry of Urban Development. The inspection will end on Thursday.

The team led by Gurdip Singh and assisted by Raghuvir Yadav and Darshan Kumar visited the Municipal Corporation, Faridabad (MCF), headquarters and various areas to assess the quality of work done by the civic body to get a better rank this time. The city was ranked 51st in a similar survey carried out last year in 73 cities across the country. The spots visited by the team included the Sarai Khwaja market, NH 5 (NIT), Old Faridabad market and Friends Colony. The team is likely to visit more places tomorrow and day after.

KL Gera, a social activist, said garbage strewn in the open and encroachments in green belts belied the claims of the authorities concerned.
