CJM presides over legal literacy camp

KULLU: Kullu Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Parveen Chauhan, who is also chairman of the Kullu Sub-divisional Legal Services Committee, presided over a legal literacy camp organised at Thella village in Garsa valley of this district today.

Kullu Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Parveen Chauhan, who is also chairman of the Kullu Sub-divisional Legal Services Committee, presided over a legal literacy camp organised at Thella village in Garsa valley of this district today. She said that people belonging to the SC and ST categories, industrial workers, women, children, individuals exploited on the basis of religion and individuals earning less than Rs 1 lakh annually were entitled to avail free legal services. She added that weaker sections of the society could also avail free legal aid.

Senior advocate Dharmender Sharma spoke on the provisions under the Consumer Protection Act and the Motor Vehicles Act. Dr Rita Singh, member of Kullu Juvenile Court apprised about the rights of women and crimes associated with juveniles. Advocate Sumit Thakur spoke on the legal provisions under the Domestic Violence Act and about the rights of the elderly under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.

Panchayat president Thakri Devi welcomed the CJM and other guest members of the committee and expressed gratitude for organising the camp, which helped to impart knowledge about various legal provisions to a large number of villagers.
