City social activist among 100 women achievers

PATIALA:A renowned paediatrician and social activist, Dr Harshindar Kaur, has been named among 100 women achievers by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Welfare in collaboration with Facebook for contributing towards the improvement in the child sex ratio.

A renowned paediatrician and social activist, Dr Harshindar Kaur, has been named among 100 women achievers by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Welfare in collaboration with Facebook for contributing towards the improvement in the child sex ratio. She raised her voice against dowry and worked against female foeticide for the past 20 years.

The women achievers were selected through nomination and voting. She is a UN-recognised fighter against female foeticide and for the rights of women. Her talk on female foeticide was selected as the best talk in the International Radio Festival of Iran.

She formed Dr Harsh Charitable Trust in 2008. She is the honorary president while her husband Dr Gurpal Singh is the honorary secretary of the trust. For the past seven years, the trust has taken up the responsibility of the education of 338 poor girls whose parents are unable to pay for their education.
