Chandigarh, May 1

City residents today experienced the hottest day of the season with maximum temperature hovering 4 degrees above normal level at 41.1°C. The minimum temperature, too, was two degrees higher at 23°C.

The Met Department has predicted that the temperature will rise tomorrow and reach the 42°C mark.

According to the forecast, the weather will remain mainly clear over the next 24 hours, becoming partly cloudy towards the evening with the possibility of rain and thundershowers at night. The department has also warned of a dust storm or thunderstorm at a few places.

Meanwhile, the soaring mercury in the region forced residents to remain indoors. Markets wore a deserted look during the daytime. The centrally air-conditioned malls in the city, however, witnessed a heavy footfall. In the evening, a huge rush was also witnessed at kiosks selling water and muskmelons.

Doctors have warned of stomach infection and dehydration due to the sudden increase in the temperature.

Earlier, on April 18, at 40.6°C, Chandigarh had recorded the highest temperature of the year.
