Solan, August 22

The Baddi-based Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) today started the admission process for its inaugural batch to be run from a temporary campus at Jharmajri.

The CIPET will enrol 50 students each in two short-term courses—-plastic injection moulding machine operator and plastic processing machine operator.

The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment will fund the first batch of 100 students where Rs 8,500 will be incurred on each student.

Lalit Jain, Chief Executive Officer of Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh (BBN), launched the courses, said the courses would equip students with job-oriented skills and would open self-employment avenues for them. He said the opening of the institute would help local industries get skilled manpower.

The Ministry of Chemicals and Petrochemicals is setting up a full-fledged institute in the BBN for which 33.19 bighas have been leased out to the CIPET at Sandholi. The Union Minister for Chemicals and Petrochemicals had laid its foundation stone on April 27.

The Centre and the state government will share 50 per cent cost of the Rs 40-crore project. The state has already contributed Rs 2.55 crore to the project.
