Ahead of Christmas on December 25, a religious procession was taken out by members of the Christian community depicting the life of Jesus Christ here.

The procession started from Shaheedi Chowk and after passing through Raghunath Bazaar, Purani Mandi, Kachi Chawni and Rajinder Bazaar culminated at Shaheedi Chowk.

Devotees dressed as Santa Claus, a chariot with King Herod and soldiers of the Roman cavalry were the special attraction in the procession. Priests of churches of the Jammu region participated in the procession along with church members. Choirs performed during the inauguration ceremony.

Different churches of Jammu and outskirts participated in the procession with the “jhankis” depicting the birth, works and Christ’s precious teachings on love, harmony, peace, and brotherhood between people.

Meanwhile, ahead of the festival, churches across the city are being decorated and at several places Santa Claus dresses have been displayed by shopkeepers. In the recent years not only the Christian community, but members of other communities, especially children, have also started celebrating the day.
