Christmas was celebrated amid traditional enthusiasm and religious fervor across Jammu today.

Special prayers for world peace and brotherhood were held at churches. The main gathering was witnessed at the Catholic Church, Gandhi Nagar road, where devotees assembled in large numbers to celebrate the birth of Lord Jesus Christ.

The church was decorated with colourful buntings and balloons and wore a festive look.

Not only Christians, but people from different faiths also visited churches along with their families and offered prayers.

“With so many disturbing things happening across the globe, especially terrorism which has affected every nation, we prayed for peace in the world so that every human being lives without fear,” said Sakshi.

“I also prayed for the safety of women in the country so that they can roam freely in any part of India,” she said.

Meanwhile, various educational institutions in Jammu also celebrated Christmas. A variety of cultural programmes were organised in schools to mark the occasion.

Soaking in the spirit of Christmas, Humanity Public School, Bari Brahmana, celebrated the occasion with gaiety. The tiny tots sang Christmas carols and the entire campus was decorated with colourful streamers and balloons.

Sweets and cake was distributed among the students and teachers. Principal of the institution, Gaurav Charak, was also present.

Christmas was also celebrated at Vir Sawarkar Higher Secondary School, where kids sang Christmas songs and enjoyed the festival.

The management of ASN Higher Seconday School, Resham Ghar Colony, celebrated Christmas with zest and zeal.

Students were dressed in fairy and Santa Claus dresses and performed on various Christmas carols. The school was decorated with red and white buntings, balloons, stars and crystal balls.

Students of kindergarten and primary wing were later taken to a church in the colony where in prayers were performed.

PB Kapoor, Principal of the school, greeted all the children and staff members. At the end, sweets and gifts were distributed among the students.

Children with special needs also celebrated Christmas at Asha School and Tiger Army Pre-Primary School, Jammu Cantonment.

Usha Singh, chairperson, Family Welfare Organisation, Tiger Division, was the chief guest.

A cultural programme was presented by the special children, which was appreciated by the guests and parents.

Singh also presented the certificate of excellence to the meritorious students, who were recently honoured by the J&K Government on the recently World Disability Day.

She also participated in the Christmas celebration ceremony at Tiger Army Pre-Primary School.

Santa Claus distributed sweets and gifts among children. Principal, Sheena Bawa, organised a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.

Christmas day was also celebrated at Air Force School, Jammu. The nursery wing of the school glittered with the festive decoration.

Vikesh Sandhal, Principal of the school, wished children a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. An impressive cultural programme was put up by the students.

The programme began with the welcome speech followed by a Christmas carol.

Students also spoke on the life and teachings of Lord Jesus Christ.

The talent show by children won hearts of the audience. A quiz on Christmas was also organised on the occasion.
