CHEMCON-2014 concludes at Panjab University

The 67th annual session of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE), CHEMCON-2014, concluded at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

CHEMCON-2014 was hosted by the Chandigarh Regional Centre of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers (IIChE) in collaboration with the Dr SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (Dr SSB UICET) of Panjab University, Chandigarh campus.

The last day of the tech fest started with an invitation lecture by Prof Ram Prasad of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Technology of the Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi.

Prof Prasad threw light on pollution caused by combustion engines. He named the hazardous chemicals emitted from the exhausts of engines, mainly of vehicles that are far more hazardous than the traditionally known carbon dioxide (CO2).

The last CHEMCON distinguished speaker (CDS) awardee of the mega event was Prof Sourav Pall, who is serving as the Director of National Chemical Laboratory of Pune and the winner of most prestigious award of Chemical Sciences, Dr SS Bhatnagar Award.

Being a chemist by profession, Prof Pal spoke on the topic of multi-scale simulation in integration of chemistry and promotion of chemical technology. The director of the premier research body of the country emphasised on the modelling of designs in chemical industry at the beginners’ level, which can bring about a complete change in the conventional industry technology.

The session was chaired by Dr Sudip K Das, Joint honorary Secretary of the IIChE for 2014, and chairman of the National Organising Committee for CHEMCON-2014 and Vice-Chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, Prof GD Yadav.

The chairman of the local organising committee of CHEMCON-2014, Emeritus Prof SK Sharma, also witnessed the session.
