New Tehri, April 26

D. Senthil Pandian, Secretary, Primary Education and Director General Education, at a meeting held in New Tehri yesterday directed officials to make efforts to check the fall in the number of students at the primary and secondary levels in the district.

He inspected reports of monitoring committees formed by the department to strengthen elementary and secondary education at the block and cluster resource centre levels in the district. He directed the officials present to work towards ensuring quality education and regularly inspect schools in the district.

He told the officials to send proposals of those schools that had set high standards in education for awards from the government.

Pandian directed them to ensure adequate training to subordinates involved in keeping the records of the BRC and CRC centres in the district. He said teachers should be appointed in every school according to the guidelines. He warned them that if any case of negligence in keeping records was brought to his notice, strict action would be taken against the erring officials. Such officials could be denied promotions and raise in salary.

He said negligence in construction works in schools would be not tolerated and erring officials would be penalised if any case of sub-standard work was noticed. The basic education officer would be responsible for the payment of salaries to teachers from the treasury, he added.

Pandian directed the officials to send teachers from schools having less than 28 students to other schools. He also told them to make a report of toilets without water supply and send it to the government for appropriate action.

The Secretary said guest teachers would be appointed soon in schools in the district. Tehri District Magistrate Yugal Kishore Pant, Director, Secondary Education, RK Kunwar, Director, Basic Education, Seema Jaunsari, Additional Director NK Bahuguna, and Chief Education Officer Dinesh Chandra Gaud attended the meeting.
