CHART trainee Ajay starts with win

CHANDIGARH:Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainee Ajay Singh blanked Mitesh Verma 9-0 in the boys’ U-16 first round match on the opening day of The Tribune CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) and State Championship here today.

Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis (CHART) trainee Ajay Singh blanked Mitesh Verma 9-0 in the boys’ U-16 first round match on the opening day of The Tribune CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) and State Championship here today.

The week-long tournament carries a prize purse of Rs 3 lakh. Sukhpreet Jhoje, meanwhile, overcame Nishank Thakur 9-4, while Sehaj Punj beat Jayant Bansal 9-6. Sarabjot Singh got the better of Sarang in a closely contested match, winning 9-7. Mahismat Kumar drubbed Rashbeg 9-6. 

In the men’s singles qualifying round, Calving Golmei humbled Punjab’s Ashpreet Singh 9-0, while Sabrang Sandal blanked Surjit Singh 9-0. Abhishek Sardana beat Stalin Nayak 9-2. 

Haryana’s Sunit Kaushik overcame Parmeet Singh Deol 9-6. Another CHART trainee Sukhpreet Jhoje defeated Nishank Thakut 9-4.  Kunal Patiyal, Sehaj Punj, Aryan Chatwal, Sarabjot Singh and Mahismat Kumar won their respective opening round matches to move to the next round of the championship.
