Dharamsala, December 2

Long queues were seen outside banks in McLeodganj as locals, Tibetans and foreigners lined up to deposit the banned currency. Some wanted to withdraw cash. At the PNB branch in McLeodganj, 10 persons were allowed to withdraw/deposit cash at a time.

Many ATMs remained out of cash in Dharamsala today. Banks have locked the ATMs due to shortage of cash.

Today, many people stood in queues to take out their salaries, but the banks were disbursing small amounts due to shortage of cash. Many banks were giving just Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000. The shutters of many ATMs also remained closed. Some ATMs were, however, working and people managed to take out Rs 2,000. Employees in the private and the unorganised sector are likely to get salaries between December 7 and 10.

The slump in the tourism sector post-demonetisation has also delayed the salaries.
