Solan, January 16

Fresh spell of snow was witnessed in the higher reaches of Sirmaur district and parts of Solan, including Karol and Chail, today.

The higher reaches of Sirmaur, including Nohradhar, Habban, Haripurdhar, etc., which had snow last evening, had the residents reeling under severe cold conditions. While the PWD staff had a tough task in opening the roads of remote area, fresh spell of snow had hit road clearance works. Snow had also disrupted the Haripur-Sangrah road which had been opened for small vehicles about two days ago.

The Karol peak donned a white mantle though no snow fell in the town and other towns like Kasauli.

Rajgarh DSP Yogesh Rolta said the roads in the interior area were again closed owing to the fresh spell of snow though conditions in Rajgarh and its surrounding area were better now with roads having been cleared of snow which had fallen earlier.

Shopkeepers were seen warming up at community fires as the cold conditions had made it difficult to sit without heating gadgets. Low power voltage was visible in the early morning when the load of power was maximum owing to the use of heating gadgets.

Superintending Engineer, HP State Electricity Board Limited, Solan, Dheeraj Mittal, said they had suffered losses worth Rs 45 lakh since January 6 snow and rain in the district. He said the staff was geared up to deal with any eventuality in view of the inclement weather prevailing since yesterday.
