Yamunanagar, January 16

The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development has decided to felicitate Yamunanagar district for its exemplary performance in the field of girl child education.

Deputy Commissioner SS Phulia said the award would be given on National Girl Child Day in New Delhi on January 24. He said the ministry had invited applications from 100 districts of the country to recognise their work done in three fields, namely Effective community engagement, Enforcement of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PC and PNDT Act) and Enabling girl child education.

Phulia said under the Enabling girl child education category, two districts were selected; Yamunanagar of Haryana and Mansa district of Punjab.

He said Dr Rakesh Gupta, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Manohar Lal, and Renu Phulia, Director, Women and Child Development, Haryana, played a major role in the effective implementation of the said scheme under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.

According to information, the district administration of Kurukshetra and Rewari districts of Haryana also applied for the said categories but failed to make it to the list of winner districts.

Phulia said the ministry was celebrating National Girl Child Day with the objective to raise awareness on the girl child so that she could be valued and respected. “This event also marks the second anniversary of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 22, 2015,” the DC said.— TNS
