Central team to visit areas hit by whitefly today

A team of the Union Government, comprising agriculture experts, will visit Fazilka district on Thursday to inspect the cotton crop, which has come under whitefly attack.

The officials will suggest scientific ways and means to protect the crop.

Dr Sukhdev Singh Brar, Chief Agriculture Officer, Fazilka, said the team would comprise Plant Protection Adviser SN Sushil and Assistant Plant Protection Adviser BS Phogat of the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage, one representative each of the Central Integrated Pest Management Centre, Jalandhar; PAU; and the Agriculture Department.

He said there had been reports of whitefly attack in many villages of Fazilka, particularly Arniwala, Khuian Sarwar and Jalalabad areas, but there was no report of loss to the crop so far. — TNS
