The involvement of Punjab policemen in the Rs 1.68 crore robbery that took place on the Panchkula-Siswan road last year has brought to the fore as to how kin of the law protectors are becoming law breakers.

Earlier, the kin of policemen have remained involved in sensational robberies in Panchkula.

Jaipal, who heads the highway robbers gang, is the son of a Punjab police Inspector. He was arrested in 2009 in connection with a sensational bank robbery at a bank in Sector 20, Panchkula. Jaipal is an undergraduate and a proclaimed offender.He has been involved in more than 10 heinous crimes, including the Mohali bank robbery, Chandigarh robbery, Panchkula bank robbery, Ludhiana robbery and Ajit Gun House (Hoshiarpur) robbery. He was lodged in a Punjab jail for kidnapping and robbing an NRI couple of around US $8,000.

Parminder Rana, the son of a police inspector was also arrested by the local along with six accomplices who were booked for abducting, robbing and threatening a trader. Parminder (19), a resident of police colony, in Sector 26, Panchkula, had also been arrested earlier in connection with an attempt to murder case in 2010.

The car-jacking gang busted for snatching a Verna car in Sector 25 Panchkula in 2012 involved the son of a Chandigarh constable posted in the vigilance wing identified as Inderpreet Singh, alias Peri. Tinu, a member of the highway robbers gang that struck Panchkula in 2009 is the son of a Chandigarh police Inspector. He was also involved in Panchkula bank robbery.
