Chandigarh, December 17

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued contempt notice to the DGPs of Punjab and Haryana and the Chandigarh IGP for not deploying women constables in state transport vehicles to prevent eve-teasing.

The notice by Justice Harinder Singh Sidhu was issued for March 23, 2015, to Punjab DGP Sumedh Singh Saini, his Haryana counterpart Sriniwas Vashisht and UT IGP Rajender P Upadhyaya on a contempt plea by advocate HC Arora.

Appearing in person, he alleged deliberate non-compliance of the directions issued by the apex court on November 30, 2012, in the case of “Deputy Inspector-General of Police versus S Samuthiram”. The directions were reiterated by a Division Bench in its decision dated April 2, 2013.
