Chandigarh, January 16

The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) will ask the Chandigarh police to find out reasons of an accident-prone spot near gurdwara in Sector 38 where recently a bus of Chitkara International School met with an accident.

The CCPCR held a hearing of the bus accident case in which the investigating officer (IO) of their police department revealed that this spot was accident prone and on an average, after every two or three days such complaints were received. CCPCR chairperson Devi Sirohi said the school authorities had produce all the records related to the speed of the bus during the accident and safety precautions which they had taken in the bus as recommended by the State Transport Department.

She said the school failed to produce the CCTV footage of the incident as the camera got damaged in the incident and no recording was available.

Sirohi said the commission today received a fresh complaint from a parent that the bus carrying about 30 students met with an accident on January 11, in which his daughter was also travelling. The parent alleged that she had undergone an operation on January 14 and was still under trauma.

The parent also sent a copy of the detailed complaint to the IGP on 15 January. The parent requested the IGP that an FIR be lodged  against the principal and all trustees of the school for committing cognizable offences of breach of trust, fraud, negligence and deliberate intentional breach of mandatory safety provisions imposed by the law of the land.
