Viraj Kala Kendra holds painting competition

The Viraj Kala Kendra (VKK) today organized an on-the-spot painting competition in connection with the week-long celebrations of the birth anniversary of late Vidya Ratan Khajuria, an eminent sculptor, artist and writer of the state.

The Viraj Kala Kendra (VKK) today organized an on-the-spot painting competition in connection with the week-long celebrations of the birth anniversary of late Vidya Ratan Khajuria, an eminent sculptor, artist and writer of the state.

Children of various schools participated in the competition. GM Balwan, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, was the chief guest.

Shahid Mohmad Dar, SDM, Jammu (South), was the guest of honour, while SC Rekhi, general secretary, Retired Officers’ Forum, was the special guest. ID Soni, State Commissioner, Bharat Scouts and Guides, presided over the function.

The function started with the welcome of guests by Raj Bharti, president, VKK. In her address, she highlighted the activities and contribution of the kendra. She said the kendra was a premier organisation working for the promotion of art and culture for the last many years and engaged in multifarious social causes and empowerment of women.

Speaking on the occasion, Rita Jatindra, former chairperson of the VKK, threw a light on the life of Vidya Ratan Khajuria.

In his address, GM Balwan appreciated the efforts being made by the kendra for the promotion of art and culture. He said that his department would be on the side of Raj Bharti in respect of promotion of art and culture in the state.

More than 100 students of various schools participated in the competition, which was held in three age group categories.
