Cancer pain treatment centre opened

The Interventional Pain Centre for dealing with chronic and cancer pains and a digital X-ray facility was inaugurated at the Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar here today.

Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta and Minister for Health Bali Bhagat inaugurated the centre. This is the first-ever pain clinic centre of the government health services in the state.

With this, J&K has become the first state of northern India to launch this facility in its peripheral hospital. The focus of the clinic is on chronic and cancer pains in view of increasing cancer cases.

Chronic pains are those pains which are resistant to treatment. These include pains of muscles, bones and nerves. Treatment in both chronic and cancer pains can be addressed through pain management, which is an emerging and a newer concept in modern medical sciences enabling a pain-free life for cancer patients.
