Shimla, November 2

After launching a state-level campaign for the identification of physically challenged persons in all districts, barring Lahaul-Spiti, the government is organising special disability camps to examine people who could be provided social security pension.

“The camps are being organised at the block-level. The government has set a goal to examine maximum number of such persons before World Disability Day on December 3, 2016, so that all eligible persons could start getting the social security pension from  January 1, 2017,” said Secretary, Social Justice and Empowerment Anuradha Thakur here today.

She said a detailed programme had been chalked out district-wise for organising the camps in the presence of specialised doctors in civil hospitals and community health centres. In Kangra district, the camps will be organised from November 3 to 29, in Bilaspur, from November 4 to 29 and in Chamba, from November 4 to 29.

In Hamirpur district, six camps will be organised from November 3 to December 8, in Kullu district, from November 16 to 23, in Sirmaur district, from November 3 to 29. Five camps will be organised in Solan district from November 16 to 25, in Shimla district, from November 16 to 30, in Kinnaur district, from November 12 to 19, in Una district, from November 9 to 30 and in Mandi district, from November 11 to 28.

Anuradha Thakur requested the physically challenged to avail the opportunity so that they could be examined and if found eligible for the social security pension, they would be issued identity cards on the spot.
