Cabinet nod to law on quota in jobs for statehood activists

The Uttarakhand Cabinet today gave an approval for tabling of a legislation providing reservation to statehood activists in government jobs during the upcoming budget session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly session.

The Cabinet that met today decided to bring a legislation that would allow the government to provide reservation to the activists. The process had come to a halt after the Nainital High Court had struck down the reservations.

The Cabinet also discussed the budget to be tabled in the House. Other decisions that were given approval included establishing power substations in Roorkee and Kashipur, e-governance in all districts so that tendering process becomes online, senior citizens above 65 years of age would travel free in the state-run buses, separate state commission for ST would be set up that would have a chairman, vice-chairman and five members.

The other decisions included assistance of Rs 65,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively, for SC and ST students who will appear for the mains and interview for IAS and PCS examination, one-time age relaxation in promotions for contractual homeopathy employees and appointment of deputy commissioners for Naintal and Dehradun zones.

However, no regular briefing was held as the government had already announced the budget session date, slated to begin from March 11.

Meanwhile, the Department of Cane Sugar cancelled the decision to frame a policy for the sale of molasses which was already being looked into by the Department of Excise.
