Jalandhar, October 9

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) organised its fourth consecutive election rally in the Doaba region today on the death anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. With the show of strength here, the BSP has once again marked the region as its main battleground for the Assembly elections.

The party had first sounded the poll bugle by holding a rally in Banga on October 9 last year. It held another rally on March 15 this year where BSP supremo Mayawati addressed a huge gathering at Nawanshahr on Kanshi Ram’s birth anniversary.

While the BSP has announced to go it alone, the party has centred all its activities in Doaba so far. With another Lalkaar rally held in Goraya on August 7, the BSP again gave a strong indication that its hopes lie in Doaba.

The party has so far declared four candidates in the region. While senior party leader and party state incharge Avtaar Singh Karimpuri will contest from Phillaur, Rajinder Singh will contest from Banga constituency. Dr Nacchatarpal Singh will contest from Nawanshahr constituency and Gurlal Saila from Chabbewal seat.

State party president Rashpal Raju said Doaba has always been a core battlefield for the party. He added that a meeting has been called tomorrow to finalise candidates for the remaining 19 seats in the region. Also, the party is expected to finalise candidates for some seats of Malwa that includes Mehal Kalan, Kharar, Faridkot and some seats in Mansa districts.

Raju said that a preliminary list of probable candidates for all the 117 Assembly seats has already been sent to Mayawati.
