The Pakistan Rangers violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara district this afternoon.

Official sources said a BSF jawan, Abhijeet Nandi, died in the exchange of fire.

The Army said the Pakistan Rangers fired low-arm gunshots towards Indian posts at Tutamari Gali in the Nowgam sector of Kupwara around noon and it continued for almost three hours.

"We also responded to the ceasefire violation," said an Army spokesman in Srinagar. "There is no report of any casualty," he added.

Army sources said the ceasefire violation was aimed at giving a cover to militants to enter into this side. Sources said intermittent firing was going on in the sector.

Meanwhile, the Army today called off the three-day operation close to the LoC in Baramulla. A soldier and two militants were killed in the gunfight. The operation started in the Uri sector on Friday morning. “We have called off the search operation in the area,” said an Army officer in Srinagar.
