Crime in Kumaon is continuing unabated. In the latest incidents, one school employee was killed in Kapkot sub- division of Bageshwar district, while a girl received serious burn injuries when her estranged lover threw acid on her after she refused to marry him in Udham Singh Nagar district.

According to the police in Kapkot sub- division of Bageshwar district, Puran Singh Mahra, a laboratory assistant in Government Senior Secondary School, Natchiti was beaten to death by some youths from the Dulam village where the deceased had gone to attend a religious function. “Police have arrested three youths of the village after the villagers have threatened that they would not allow the body for postmortem unless the killers were arrested,” said S.P. Raipa, a local police officer.

According to the police, the deceased, who was a resident of Dwarso village of Aare belt of Bageshwar district has received injuries all over his body after been mercilessly beaten up by the criminals.

In another incident of crime in the region, a 22 years old woman received serious injuries marks on her body when a youth, said to be her former lover hurled acid on her after she refused to marry him at jaspur town of Udham Singh Nagar district . According to the police, the youth, Farhan, who works in Delhi factory, wanted to marry Gulnaz. However, when the girl refused his proposal, he called her at some lone place and hurled acid on her body. “Seriously injured Gulnaz has been admitted to hospital while the youth has been arrested by the police,” said J.C. Pathak, police station in charge of Jaspur police station.
