Fog effect: Shatabdi delayed by 4 hrs

CHANDIGARH: For the second consecutive day, the morning Shatabdi Express pulled in to the Chandigarh railway station late by over four hours, courtesy dense fog.

For the second consecutive day, the morning Shatabdi Express pulled in to the Chandigarh railway station late by over four hours, courtesy dense fog.

A railway official said due to fog, the train left New Delhi railway station at 11 am. The train normally takes three hours to reach Chandigarh but today it took more than seven hours.

The worst-affected are long-route trains, which were delayed by seven to 12 hours. The Unchahar Express 14217 arrived late by 12 hours while the 14218 left Chandigarh four hours late. The Lucknow-Chandigarh Express 15011 arrived around four hours late and the 15012 train departed late by two hours and a half. The Howrah-Chandigarh 12311 arrived late by 11 hours while the Sadbhavana Express 12231 arrived nine hours late.

“If you want to reach New Delhi on time, the better mode of transportation these days is by road,” said Shami, who came for cancellation of reservation of her aunt’s ticket for the Shatabdi Express of December 25.

Six flights cancelled

Further, six flights were cancelled from Chandigarh today. The Jet Airways cancelled its four flights while the IndiGo and the SpiceJet cancelled their two flights each. The flights were cancelled with prior notice and no airline had accepted advance bookings.

Weather forecast

Meanwhile, the Met department has predicted mainly clear sky for tomorrow with the maximum temperature of 19 degree Celsius and the minimum of 6 degrees.

The maximum temperature recorded today was 20 degree Celsius and the minimum was recorded at 5.8 degree Celsius.

Long-route trains worst affected
