From cautious silence to boisterous festivity, the atmosphere at the residence of Punjab CM-designate Capt Amarinder Singh changed dramatically within an hour of election result leads. 

 By 10 am it was clear the Congress had won. The drums began to beat incessantly. By 11 am, there was a queue of supporters, among them top bureaucrats and police officers, at Captain’s house. But it was not until noon that Amarinder Singh chose to came out of his room, where he had been tracking the results with his close aides and family members.

 He joined the party workers and his newlywed grandson Nirvan and his wife Mriganka Singh, granddaughter of senior Congress leader Karan Singh, in the victory celebrations and then left for his constituency Patiala to thank the voters there. There were celebrations at the Punjab Congress office in Sector 15 too.
