Blue-card holders of some villages in the district have complained of a supply of substandard wheat under the public distribution system (PDS) at fair-price shops.

Jagsir Singh, Mohan Singh and Jarnail Singh, residents of Bhinder Kalan village, alleged that the wheat stock was mixed with clay, stones, unhusked wheat and rust.

Rajnish Kumari, District Food and Supplies Controller, told The Tribune that she had asked an inspector of the department to look into the complaints. “We will replace the stock and ensure that good-quality wheat is distributed,” she said.

Meanwhile, PPCC secretary Ravi Grewal has demanded a probe by the Vigilance Department into the alleged irregularities in the distribution of wheat under the PDS.
