The Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and khap panchayats have decided to intensify their protest following no response from the state government.

They have decided to stop offering court arrests and start blocking roads across the state from Thursday.

Their demands include implementation of the Swaminathan Commission report and revoking of land ordinance.

“So far, farmers were protesting peacefully, but the state government didn’t pay any attention towards their demands. It has been decided that farmers will not court arrest. Instead, they will block roads and the government will be responsible for this,” farmer leader Karam Singh Mathana said.

Meanwhile, 52 farmers who courted arrest on Friday and Saturday were released today.

One of the released farmers, Dharmabeer of Shahabad, said: “Though farmers have been released, they won’t return home. All farmers will reach the protest site outside Pipli Grain Market and continue with the agitation.”
