State BJP spokesperson Munna Singh Chauhan today demanded that a case should be registered against Chief Minister Harish Rawat and the Director General (DG) of Information and Public Relations for misusing the public money by releasing advertisements aimed at image building, a day before the Chief Minister was to appear before the CBI violating the Supreme Court directives.

“The directives clearly state that public money should not be used for image building or for personal campaigns, but the May 23 advertisement released by the DG not only promoted the political agenda of the Harish Rawat government but also tried to instigate the people against the CBI,” said Munna Singh.

Making a strong case against the Chief Minister and the DG, Chauhan said the Chief Minister and the DG as public servants had misused the public money. “They should be tried under the Anti-Corruption Act. The Chief Minister should also be booked for disrupting peace as after the advertisement, a large number of people had gathered to protest against the CBI,” Chauhan said.

Further, Chauhan said his party would soon approach the Governor and seek appropriate action against the Chief Minister and the DG.

He said his party on behalf of the public would like to know how the youth of the state benefited from the advertisement. “We would like to know how the interest of the public was served through the advertisement that costed crores of rupees,” said Chauhan.

The BJP spokesperson also rebuffed the claims of the Chief Minister about a sting CD exposing the BJP leaders. “The Chief Minister should come up with evidence or tender a public apologyif he fails to produce a CD that he has been claiming,” Chauhan said.
