Haridwar, August 6

The state BJP will hold the pardafash rally across six Kumaon districts and seven Garhwal districts from August 15 to highlight inefficient governance, corruption and persistent efforts by the Congress to harass dissident MLAs, who joined the BJP in May.

BJP leader Sanjay Chopra stated this here today. He said under the leadership of veteran leader Harak Singh Rawat party workers would start the campaign from the Almora parliamentary constituency, home constituency of Chief Minister Harish Rawat.

The in charge for the rally in Almora, Jageshwar, Ranikhet, Someshwar, Dwarhat, Didihat, Dharchula, Bageshwar, Gangolihat, Salt, Bageshwar, Kapkot, Lohaghat and Champawat Assembly segments have already been named.

“The government is trying to frame all 10 former Congress legislators, who joined the BJP, in false cases. Harak Singh Rawat, whom Chief Minister Harish Rawat fears the mos, is their main target,” said Chopra, who resigned from the post of the Jawalpur Agricultural Committee chairperson in June.

Chopra demanded a high-level probe into the rape allegation made by a woman, who later retracted from her statement.

“The plot was hatched to malign the popular image of Harak Singh Rawat, who has a significant hold in Garhwal division. As there are more than 25 seats in Garhwal, Harish Rawat feels that by attacking BJP leaders from Garhwal he may win the coming Assembly elections. Hence the Congress government is targeting former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna, Harak Rawat and Narendra Nagar MLA Subodh Uniyal,” said Chopra.
