Workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Anushuchit Morcha has resented the poor condition of roads and drainage in slum colonies that are mainly inhabited by members of the Scheduled Caste community.

The BJP workers and residents of the affected areas held a protest at the District Magistrate’s office here today against the poor condition of roads and drainage in slums. They gave a memorandum to the district officials in this regard.

The protesters slammed the state government for ignoring the basic needs of poor people. They alleged that roads and drains in Valmiki Basti, Indra Colony, Ambedkar Nagar and other slum areas were in a poor condition. At the same time, the government had not cleared its stand on the issue of regularisation of these slum colonies.

Bhagwat Prasad Makwana, national vice-president of the BJP Anushuchit Morcha, said, “The state government is deceiving people by giving false promises. In 2011, the BJP government worked for the development of slums but later the Congress-led government stopped all projects launched earlier due to political rivalry”. At present, the condition of roads, drains and other basic infrastructure was in bad shape in slums but the government was not doing anything. If the situation did not improve, the party would intensify its protest, he added.

Umesh Aggrawal, Harish Dora, Jaypal Valmiki, Dharampal Ghagat and Narendra Singh took part in the protest.
