Dehradun, October 3

Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Kishore Upadhyay said a meeting of PCC office-bearers was proposed at Gairsain, Chamoli, at the beginning of the Assembly session, which is slated to be held from November 2.

He, while addressing a press conference at Rajeev Bhavan yesterday, said the PCC had sent a requisition to the state government, demanding suitable land for all political parties of the state to set up their offices at Gairsain.

He targeted the BJP for creating an atmosphere of instability in the state. He said despite in power at the Centre, BJP MPs had not been able to get any of the state-specific issues addressed so far.

Upadhyay said the PCC had written a letter to the Centre, demanding release of funds for setting up a permanent state capital, funds for the Ardh Kumbh which is slated to take place at Haridwar, the special status to Uttarakhand, resolving land disputes with neighbouring Uttar Pradesh etc. but the state government was yet to receive any response so far.

Upadhyay said the party had sent its workers to all 70 Assembly constituencies for sensitising residents about beneficiary schemes and public welfare works being done by the government.

About the BJP’s proposed demonstration at the Chief Minister’s residence on October 5, Upadhyay said the BJP did not take any steps to address grievances of residents during its regime in the state.
