Dehradun, March 15

BJP councillors held a demonstration at the Dehradun Municipal Corporation here today in support of their demands for better basic amenities across the city.

The protesters were led by District Planning Committee member Bhupinder Kaithat. They gathered at the DMC and raised slogans against it. They said basic amenities were in a poor condition. “Potholes have surfaced on roads. Heaps of garbage can be easily seen hither and thither. The authorities concerned have been informed several times, but to no avail. The Municipal Corporation should draft a proposal to clean drains as these are the main reason behind waterlogging, particularly after rainfall,” they said.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to Municipal Commissioner Ravneet Cheema, demanding immediate steps to address their grievances. They said more sanitation workers should be deployed in different wards of the city. The DMC should draft a proposal to carry out an anti-encroachment drive.

Bhupinder Kaithat said, “Dehradun can’t make it to the list of smart city until the DMC drafts a proposal to improve basic amenities. Residents of several colonies have started facing the brunt of shortage of potable water with the advent of the summer. Streetlights in many areas are broken. The DMC should work hard to improve basic amenities and carry out development works in the different wards of the corporation.”

Sushil Gupta, Nandini Sharma, Manmohan Ghai, Sonu Uniyal, Mahipal Dhiman, Sharda Gupta, Neeru Bhatt, Nikhil Kumar and Sanjeev Malhotra among others took part in the protest.
