The Uttarakhand BJP has condemned the alleged harassment of Dalit families at the behest of a minister in the Rampur area of Uttar Pradesh.

National vice president of the BJP Scheduled Caste Cell Bhagwat Prasad Makwana, who returned from Rampur today, accused Uttar Pradesh Urban Development Minister Azam Khan of trying to demolish a Dalit settlement in Rampur and forcing community members to convert to Islam.

Makwana said the BJP would not tolerate the harassment of Dalits and would take up the issue at the national level. A party team comprising Arjun Valmiki, Pramod Sonkar and Atal Valmiki visited Rampur to take stock of the situation. Makwana said he had submitted a report on the plight of Dalits in Rampur to the party central leadership.
