Dehradun, March 5

Senior Congress leader Jot Singh Bisht has raised questions on the  Char Dham all-weather road project. He alleged that construction was being carried out without paying heed to the fragile ecosystem.

Bisht accused the government of overlooking environment considerations while taking up the broadening work.

“Our region is earthquake-prone and we cannot risk the lives of people by carrying out indiscriminate felling of trees,” he said.

Bisht alleged that no  roadmap had been put in place for the disposal of muck. “The muck so formed during blasting and other means is being dumped in areas that could prove disastrous during the rain,” he said.

He said those with political backing had been compensated for the land acquired for the project, but genuine ones had been left out.
