A 41-year-old motorcyclist was crushed to death on the NH-73 while another scooterist was injured after they were hit by a speeding car near the Ghaggar bridge late last night. The motorcyclist, identified as Ganga Prasad, kept lying on the road and was run over by several vehicles.

The injured scooterist has been identified as Arun Kumar. Both of them were hit by a speeding Indica car, which sped away.

Prasad’s body was severed as he fell on the road while Arun fell on the roadside into a kutcha area and was found unconscious after a 45-minute search operation by the police.

The victims were rushed to the General Hospital where Prasad was declared brought dead while Arun was discharged after being given first aid.

Prasad was a resident of Madanpur in Sector 26 while Arun Kumar is a resident of Pinjore. Prasad was travelling from Majri Chowk to Sector 26 while Arun was coming from the opposite side. Prasad is survived by his wife and three children. His elder brother is physically challenged.

“In a bid to overtake, the Indica car driver, who was at a high speed, hit the scooterist. He lost control over the vehicle and hit Prasad’s bike, who was taking a turn,” said the investigating officer (IO), Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mansa Ram.

Prasad fell on the road and was run over by the Indica car. When the police reached the spot after being called up by a passerby, they found that Prasad had been run over by several other vehicles.

Realising that apart from the motorcycle, a scooter was also lying damaged on the spot, the police started searching for the scooterist.

The police lodged a case against the car driver on Arun’s statement. He told the police that nobody came to their help even though he kept shouting and then fell unconscious.
