Bhiwani, April 26

The district has received 800 cusecs less water than its demand due to low water level in the Western Yamuna Canal (WYC).

Sources said that 1,000 cusecs could have fulfilled the water demand of the city and its surrounding areas, but the far-flung areas of Tosham, Siwani Mandi, Bahal and Bawani Khera would remain parched.

The district had received 1,200 cusecs water in Sunder Branch distributary on April 22 against the demand of 1,800 cusecs, but its level receded on Sunday by more than 200 cusecs due to low water level in the WYC.

Irrigation Department Executive Engineer Dalip Kumar said that due to water shortage in the WYC, canals in the district carrying less water. It had also led to stopping of the water supply to Sunder distributary, he said.

He hoped that the water situation was likely to improve in next a few days and more water would be released for consumption. — TNS
