Uttarakhand DGP MA Ganapathy stressed the need for having a better inter-state police coordination to check rising crime in different cities of the country. He was chairing the 12th inter-state and inter-agency coordination meeting held at the police headquarters here today.

He told police officials to draft a blueprint to check smuggling from neighbouring countries. He instructed them to identify and deploy additional force along the Kanwar Yatra route to avoid any untoward incident during the yatra. He said the use of DJ, Trishul (trident), hockey sticks and iron rods would be strictly banned while entering Uttarakhand from neighbouring states.

The DGP said a communal clash could break out during the Kanwar Yatra season as the state Legislative Assembly elections were scheduled to be held next year. Police forces from different states should remain alert during the yatra season.

“Police forces from different states should collectively work to check drug peddling in their states,” the DGP said. He instructed police officials to take stringent action against those found guilty of creating a ruckus during the yatra season. He said city and traffic police should ensure that Kanwaris strictly follow traffic rules and regulations during the course of their journey. He directed them to divert traffic to avoid traffic congestion at the busiest inter-crossings and on the arterial roads in the different cities of Uttarakhand.

Ganapathy instructed police officials to take effective steps to provide a parking lot for Kanwaris and install CCTV cameras at sensitive, ultra-sensitive and along the yatra route.
