BC Roy award for Hamirpur doc

Dr DS Rana, chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi and a resident of remote Dhimmi village in the district, was today honoured with the prestigious BC Roy award. The award was conferred on him by President Pranab Mukherjee.

Notably, Dr Rana completed his schooling from the village school and was selected for medical college Shimla for MBBS degree in 1972 and did his postgraduation in medicine from the PGI, Chandigarh, in 1976. He completed his degree in nephrology from AIIMS in New Delhi.

Dr Rana got the BC Roy award for recognising best talents in development of nephrology. It was pertinent to mention here that Dr Rana had been working with Sir Ganga Ram Hospital since 1981 and had been instrumental in establishing the first telemedicine centre for the rural people at his native village Dhimmi.

When contacted, Dr Rana said serving people back in the hill state was his dream and he would soon arrange better facilities at the charitable hospital he had started in the village. He said a new block with improved facilities would start working from the second week of April.
