Bathinda, May 21

A 21-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself in the toilet of the Balianwali police station today.

The deceased was identified as Jasvir Kaur, a resident of Dadu village.

She had been taken to the police station by panchayat members of Nandgarh Kotra village and her relatives.

Sources said the victim’s friend, Balwinder Kaur, was residing in Nandgarh Kotra village and both were working in a thread factory in Ambala.

SSP Swapan Sharma said Balwinder was reported missing ever since the duo visited Gurdwara Dukhniwaran Sahib in Patiala.

Jasvir returned to Nandgarh Kotra village and informed Balwinder’s relatives that she had gone missing. The relatives called the panchayat and took Jasvir to the police station. Policemen were questioning her when she sought permission to go to the toilet.

“She went inside the toilet and hanged herself from the iron grille of the ventilator with her dupatta,” the SSP added.

The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
