The Kangra district administration organised “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” programme at Fatehpur in Jawali yesterday. The event was organised under the save the girl child drive launched by the administration.

SDM Jawali Mohan Dutt Sharma also organised lunch to celebrate the birth of 30 baby girls last year in the area. The infants were also honoured and given gifts.

On the occasion, bank accounts of 36 girls were opened.

Presiding over the function, the SDM expressed concern over the falling sex ratio i.e. 876:1000 in Fatehpur development block and exhorted the people to keep a strict vigil on the same.

He said sex determination examination and female foeticide were heinous crimes.

He enlisted a number of pro-girl child welfare schemes launched by the state government.

The objective of the function was to generate mass awareness to celebrate the birth of baby girls in the area.
