Ludhiana, August 20

Ludhiana legislators Simarjit Singh Bains and his brother Balwinder Singh Bains, whose “satyagraha” against the sand mafia recently created a stir, are ready to join hands with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the 2017 Assembly elections.

Talking to The Tribune, Simarjit said the national leadership of AAP had been in touch with him. “It is a two-way communication. We spoke to them about working together and they also approached us.” He said he and Balwinder are open to the idea of joining AAP.

“Our agenda is similar to that of AAP. We are united in our fight against corruption and drug mafia in the state,” said Simarjit.

Clearly hinting that the Bains brothers are looking for a role in AAP leadership in the state, Simarjit claimed that the party (AAP) was facing a leadership crisis in Punjab. “AAP’s state unit has a dearth of leaders who connect with the public and reach out to the masses,” he said. — TNS
